Freedom Isn't Just Fireworks

“Peace isn't something I found. It was something I finally made room for.”

July has always made me think about Freedom.
Not just the kind we celebrate with fireworks, backyard barbecues, and long summer nights, but the quieter kind. The kind that doesn't make a lot of noise. The kind that changes us from the inside out.

Sunday I woke up with this overwhelming feeling that my house needed a reset.

Not because it was dirty. (well, with three kids and a dog it’s always a little dirty)

But because it felt heavy.

I filled a bucket with hot water, opened every window, turned up my playlist and started wiping down walls, doors, ceilings, baseboards - anything I could reach.

At one point I caught myself throwing the water around like it was holy water and started laughing. I honestly didn’t even know what energy I was trying to evict. All I knew was that it had overstayed its welcome.

As I cleaned, I found myself cutting energetic cords, calling my energy back, and releasing the pieces of myself I’d given away trying to keep everyone else comfortable.

Somewhere between wiping down a doorway and talking to Spirit, I realized this wasn't really about cleaning the house.

It was about making room for myself again.

When I finished, everything felt different.

The house felt lighter.

I felt lighter.

Nothing about the walls had changed, but somehow everything had changed.

It reminded me that freedom isn’t always something we find. Sometimes it’s something we choose.

It’s saying no without apologizing.

It’s letting go of expectations that were never yours to carry.

It’s protecting your peace instead of protecting everyone else’s opinion of you.

It’s realizing you don’t have to keep carrying old stories simple because they’ve been with you for a long time.

This month, while we’re celebrating freedom in all the traditional ways, I’m also celebrating the freedom that comes from releasing what no longer belongs in my heart, my home, and my life.

Maybe that’s your invitation, too.

What It Taught Me

I've learned that our homes often reflect what's happening inside of us.

When life feels overwhelming, clutter begins to collect. We stop opening the windows. We rush from one responsibility to the next without giving ourselves permission to simply pause.

But peace rarely arrives all at once.

It shows up in small choices.

Opening a window.

Lighting a candle.

Choosing yourself, one moment at a time.

Sometimes that's all it takes to remember that you're allowed to begin again.

July's Ritual

Set aside twenty to thirty minutes just for yourself.

Open every window you can and let fresh air move through your home. Imagine it carrying away anything that feels heavy, stagnant, or no longer belongs.

Put on music that makes you feel calm, grounded, or empowered.

Starting at your front door, slowly move through each room. As you clean, mist your space with Sacred Smoke, light a candle or incense, or simply move with the intention of creating space for something new.

As you walk through your home, quietly repeat:

"I release what no longer serves me. I welcome peace, clarity, joy, and abundance into this home."

If one room feels especially heavy, linger there for a moment. Close your eyes. Take three slow breaths. Imagine the space filling with light.

When you feel you've finished, don't rush to the next task.

Make your favorite drink, find a comfortable place to sit, and write down:

• Three things you're ready to release.

• Three things you're inviting into your life.

Then simply sit.

Notice the stillness you've created.

Sometimes the greatest gift of a ritual isn't what you did.

It's who you become in the quiet that follows.

Your Invitation This Month

This month, I invite you to...

• Open the windows and let fresh air move through your home.

• Create one quiet moment that's just for you.

• Release something you've been carrying for too long.

• Welcome a new intention with an open heart.

• Notice how different your home feels when you fill it with presence instead of pressure.

• Remember that peace is something you create, one small ritual at a time.

This Month's Scent Companion

This month's companion is Sacred Smoke.

Blended with grounding notes of sage, palo santo, myrrh, and warm cardamom, it's the scent I reach for whenever I want to clear the air, settle my thoughts, and begin again.

Whether you're welcoming a new season, closing an old chapter, or simply pressing reset after a long week, let this ritual remind you that your home can become a sanctuary with nothing more than intention.

The scent isn't what creates the magic.

Your intention does.

The fragrance is simply there to help you remember it.

Joanna's Journal Prompt

What have I been carrying that I'm finally ready to set down?

A Thought to Leave You With

Your home doesn't have to be perfect to feel sacred.

Your rituals don't have to be elaborate to be meaningful.

And you don't have to wait for a full moon, a new year, or the "right" moment to begin again.

Sometimes freedom begins with opening a window.

Sometimes healing begins with wiping down a doorway.

Sometimes peace arrives the moment you decide that what no longer serves you doesn't get to stay.

May this month bring you a little more space to breathe, a little more courage to let go, and a little more freedom to become who you're meant to be.

Until next month...

Wishing you a little magic every day.

xo, Joanna
